The National Gallery in London is announcing an exhibition dedicated to the Carracci artists in 2025 through a policy of reorganizing the collection.
The drawings, two meters high and four meters wide, were made in white chalk and charcoal and for this reason they are rarely exhibited due to their delicate execution.
Designed by the Carracci brothers, Agostino and Annibale, they were conceived for Palazzo Farnese in Rome, commissioned by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese (1573 – 1626).
From Ovid’s Metamorphosis, the drawings are by Agostino Carracci (1557 – 1602) with a hypothesis of intervention also by the younger brother Annibale (1560 – 1609).
