The Italian women’s tennis team arrived at the 2024 edition of the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) as the favorites after the final of the previous year and a series of high-level opponent nations with a slightly lower collective.
Italy: a solid group given by the singles of Jasmine Paolini and the doubles of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, without forgetting the second singles in Lucia Bronzetti, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martina Trevisan led by Tathiana Garbin.
The opponents in Great Britain, Czech Republic and Poland of Iga Swiatek also appeared among the favorites. As a surprise, Slovakia fought until the last point showing great tenacity.
The final between Italy and Slovakia, compared to the trend of the BJK Cup 2024, all in all balanced, was one-way with Italy dominating from the beginning the opponents partly turned off by the previous rounds.
Lucia Bronzetti 6/2, 6/4 vs Viktoria Hruncakova and Jasmine Paolini 6/2, 6/1 vs Rebecca Sramkova quickly close for the fifth victory eleven years after the previous one. Cup raised and jacket to wear as usual lead the Azzurre to rejoice with full merit.
